Membership

There are currently several categories of BPCA Membership designed to reflect the needs of the pest control industry in Britain. Full membership is only open to incorporated companies, firms and partnerships engaged in the UK in the business of pest control in any aspects.

Full membership falls into four principle categories:

• Servicing companies
• Bird Management companies
• Manufacturers & Distributors
• Consultancy

In order to foster professional standards throughout the pest control industry, companies engaged in pest control must meet a set of criteria. For your information, primary criteria for servicing companies is detailed on the right.

Other categories of membership include:

• Associate
• Local Authority
• Probationary
• International

Servicing Companies Membership Criteria
(w.e.f. 1 January 2012)

• The business must have been trading in pest control for a minimum of 1 year.

Officers of the business must not be undischarged bankrupts (Officers include directors of the company or the senior management level within companies).

• The business must not sub-contract any work involving the eradication of pest species except to other BPCA members.

• The business must, as a minimum, hold the following insurances: 1) any business with employees - minimum £10m Employers Liability insurance, 2) minimum of £2m Public and Products Liability Insurance. Depending on the nature of the contracts held, the business of your clients or the work you carry out, insurance requirements may be greater. Please consult your broker for their advice.

• The business undertakes to abide by the requirements of BPCA's Codes of Conduct and Practice, and all BPCA Rules and Regulations.

• All staff involved in the eradication and control of pest species must hold one of the following qualifications: RSPH/BPCA (Level 2) Award in Pest Management; RSPH/BPCA (Level 2) Certificate in Pest Control; BPC Diploma Part I [previously BPC Diploma]; RSPH Certificate in Pest Control or NVQ in Pest Control. If your staff do not hold any of the above qualifications, or the business specialises in a particular area (e.g. fumigation), please contact the BPCA office. Trainees under direct supervision have 18 months to pass the Level 2 qualification for the company to remain members of BPCA.

• All staff involved in the eradication and control of pest species must be members of a recognised CPD scheme, currently PROMPT and in-house schemes approved by BPCA.

• Companies agree to regular audit and assessment by BPCA.
