Frequently Asked Questions
What is the BASIS PROMPT scheme?
The PROMPT Professional Pest Controllers Register is an industry-wide initiative to ensure that professional pest controllers can show they have received proper training, have achieved the required level of competence, and have invested time in keeping their knowledge and skills up to date through regular Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities.
So what do I have to do?
PROMPT requires full members to achieve 20 CPD points over the year, starting 1 January. Twenty CPD points should take between 10 and 20 hours of qualifying activities, depending on the content and level of participation.
Do I have to pay for courses?
No. An event does not have to be an expensive training course. It could be:
· an internal team meeting,
· a BPCA regional forum
· a supplier day
· an industry exhibition (eg PestEx www.pestex.org )
· a meeting with a manufacturer’s representative
· an update from your own technical reading and/or research
· filling in a CPD quiz in a magazine
· regularly reading an industry magazine
· technical conversations with association staff
In November 2011 alone 32 points were available to achieve at no cost to individuals. CPD doesn’t necessarily require attendance on training courses: any activity that can be defined as personal development whether maintaining, improving or broadening the knowledge or skills necessary for the execution of your daily work could be allocated CPD points.
Where can I find out the points for an event?
To see a list of points available for future events, visit the Diary of Events on the BASIS PROMPT website http://goo.gl/c0VTr
If the event is not listed, contact the organisers and ask them to have the event ‘pointed’.
